A very effective and lucrative option, liposuction is harmless and easy. Though it was traditionally popular among women, more and more modern day men are also considering this procedure for getting back into shape.
Liposuction of the tummy is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures among men and women of all age groups. Abdominal liposuction, also known as the liposuction of the stomach, is helpful for people who have fat deposits on their stomach. Patients who want a flat and firm tummy are an ideal candidate for this procedure.
What does Liposuction surgery do?
The procedure helps in removing localised fat deposits that are resistant to physical exercise and diet. There are many who eat healthily and adhere to a regular exercise routine and still have fat deposits, especially in the face, knees, abdomen, ankles, hips and arms. For such people, liposuction is the best answer to the problems of excessive fat deposits. If done correctly, it can improve your overall appearance.
What does the surgery NOT do?
The surgery will not help in lifting hanging skin. It will not help you get rid of obesity. It will not remove cellulite. The liposuction procedure is meant for treating deep fat deposits while cellulite is a superficial problem.
How liposuction is done?
Complementary sedation and local anaesthesia are administered for simple cases. General anaesthesia is administered if the area to be treated is large.
Length of surgery
The entire duration of the surgery lasts for thirty minutes to three hours depending on the complexity of the case.
What does the procedure consist of?
The surgeon would make a very small incision nearly 3mm or 0.1 inches long followed by insertion of a small tube called cannula under your skin. The cannula might be connected to a special syringe or a device that creates high vacuum pressure. The unwanted deposits of fat, which prior to this procedure were treated with injections of a special liquid (saline water solution combined with a vasoconstrictor and local anaesthesia), are eliminated from under your skin through the cannula by suction. This liquid helps in creating conditions for extracting fat. The surgeon moves the cannula under the skin to reach all targeted areas. The number of incisions varies depending on the characteristic of each part, however, it is usually more than one. In order to make the external appearance homogeneous, the surgeon would perform the suction in a pattern of crossing lines. In UAL, ultrasonic assisted liposuction, a special cannula that generates ultrasonic waves is used to perform the surgery. Since these waves trigger the fat cells to rupture causing liquification of fat.
